Tree Beautification Project

Story

Severe weather events, disease, insect damage and prolonged drought conditions have taken a toll on the Fairgrounds’ tree canopy. During 2024 – 2025, approximately 50 trees were removed. This program provides a structured, donor-supported pathway to restore and preserve the natural beauty of the Fairgrounds for generations to come.

In response, The Kansas State Fair and the Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation have established the Tree Beautification Project. This initiative focuses on planting new trees, maintaining existing trees and enhancing shaded greenspaces throughout the Fairgrounds.

This project not only benefits the Kansas State Fair, it serves the community year-round.

Project Goals

  • Restore trees lost to storms, disease, insects and drought
  • Improve shade, comfort & walkability on the Fairgrounds
  • Create more park-like and welcoming environment
  • Provide meaningful donor recognition opportunities
  • Establish a sustainable, ongoing tree program

Each year 10-15 trees will be needed. Locations for additional trees will be identified annually by the Kansas State Fair.

Tree species are determined through recommendations from the Kansas Forest Service.
