Around the Grounds: House of Capper — Part One

You may be looking at the title of this edition of Around the Grounds and thinking, “Part One? I thought we already covered part one of the Capper?” And you’d be somewhat correct. Around the Grounds has taken a look at one piece of the Capper Project, the Capper Cooperative Park, which sits adjacent to the House of Capper.

While the two, the House of Capper and the Capper Cooperative Park, are integrally intertwined — they also serve uniquely different purposes. While the Capper Cooperative Park is a beautiful walk-through educational attraction, the House of Capper makes space for engaging activities and events and provides a lovely place to rest and relax.

During the Kansas State Fair, the House of Capper hosts a plethora of fun from concerts and dancing to ceremonies, trophy viewings and more! There’s nothing better than being in the area of the House of Capper during the Fair and hearing lively music dancing on the wind and making that area of the Fair even more alive and memorable.

The House of Capper was completely rebuilt in the original architectural style and dedicated in 2023, in addition to the opening of the Capper Cooperative Park. There’s a lot of history built in, including in regards to the namesake, but that is a story for another time.,

Around the Grounds is an E-Update series that explores the buildings and attractions of the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Most places have a lot to uncover, so they’ll appear in multiple parts over time. We won’t always cover those parts back-to-back — rather, we’ll move around the Fairgrounds and highlight different buildings along the way. Over time, Around the Grounds will create a growing look at many different spaces — one article at a time.

Join us as we continue to explore the Fairgrounds! Be sure you (and your friends!) are signed up for our First Friday E-Updates to receive future Around the Grounds features straight to your inbox.
