When you visited the Kansas State Fair this year, you may have noticed a number of improvements across the grounds, including the Big Slide. The Big Slide has always been an icon of the Kansas State Fair, and this year, it got dressed up for the occasion.
After purchasing the slide earlier this year, the Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation gave it a red, white and blue look in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. Local contractors and business owners pitched in on improvements you might have missed between climbing the stairs and racing to the bottom — from new speakers and lighting, to structural and electrical upgrades, quality fencing and a brand new air conditioned ticket booth, and much more!
We’d like to thank the whole crew for showing the Kansas State Fair how much it means to them by not only contributing in meaningful ways, but by having as much fun as they did while doing so.
Around the Grounds is a monthly E-Update series that explores the buildings and attractions of the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Most places have a lot to uncover, so they’ll appear in multiple parts over time. We won’t always cover those parts back-to-back — rather, we’ll move around the Fairgrounds and highlight different buildings along the way.
