Inspired by the timeless tradition of the Kentucky Derby, Hats & Horses blends upscale entertainment, vibrant fashion, and friendly competition—all while raising funds to support ongoing improvements to the Kansas State Fairgrounds.
Guests will step into an atmosphere of elegance when doors open at 3:00 PM, welcoming attendees with the sights, sounds, and flavors of Derby Day. Activities begin at 3:30 PM, leading into an evening filled with excitement as the Kentucky Derby is livestreamed on multiple large screens throughout the venue.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, guests will enjoy Mint Julips and Oaks Lilys, a specially curated Derby-inspired menu, and an open bar featuring additional signature cocktails. The venue will buzz with energy as attendees gather to cheer for their favorite horses, participate in Derby-themed games, and place friendly wagers as the iconic race unfolds.
Celebrity Emcees
The event will be hosted by celebrity emcees Brityne Rucker and Max Dutton, who will guide guests through the festivities, contests, and a limited live auction benefiting improvement on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

The Derby Belle Competition will celebrate the lady whose complete ensemble—from hat to accessories—captures the spirit and sophistication of Derby fashion.
Gentlemen will also have the opportunity to compete in the Bowties and Southern Style Competition, recognizing the man whose outfit best reflects classic southern charm, featuring bowties, seersucker suits, stylish shirts, and distinctive footwear. Couples can join the excitement through the Derby Couple Competition, where coordinated outfits and shared Derby flair take center stage.
Adding even more excitement is the Best Derby Table Contest, which celebrates the table that brings the most enthusiasm, creativity, and festive energy to the event. From spirited cheering and themed attire to creating a lively atmosphere, this award recognizes those who truly embrace the Derby experience.

About the 1861 Club
The 1861 Club is a flexible, lodge style event venue located on the Kansas State Fairgrounds and operated by the Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation. For most of the year it operates as a high-end venue for weddings, special and corporate events, and activities. During the Kansas State Fair, it is transformed into a climate-controlled food, beverage and entertainment venue for fast fine dining and entertainment experience for all Fair attendees.
Funds raised at the 1861 Club are put back into projects which improve the Kansas State Fairgrounds, these improvements are enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year.
