March 2024 Volunteer Spotlight: Brandon Frederick

It’s calving season, which means that getting ahold of Brandon Frederick for this month’s volunteer spotlight was a bit tricky! He was swamped calving over 200 heifers, but he still made time to answer a few questions for us. We couldn’t be happier to share more about Brandon with you!

Brandon has been involved with the Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation for many years, helping with the Boots and Bling auction since he was in high school. He recalled when it was held at the Domestic Arts building and said that seeing the event grow to 700 attendees last year has been one of the highlights of his time volunteering with the Foundation.

Boots and Bling is a good cause and it keeps improving, which helps the Fair improve. I’m happy to help however I can.

One of his favorite memories of Boots and Bling was in 2021 when the theme was Dueling Pianos. Brandon went on to say, “It was a lot of fun when they played the fight songs from both K-State and KU, the whole crowd got involved cheering for their favorite team’s song.”

Having grown up attending and exhibiting cattle at the Kansas State Fair, it is very important to him. He says that the fair is essential because it brings ag education to Kansans.

It’s about getting in front of people to share what we do every day.

As a self-proclaimed people-person, Brandon enjoys the Fair because it has allowed him to meet new people, make new friends, and stay connected to old friends. Each year, he looks forward to everyone coming together for another exciting year of Fair activities. In addition to the Kansas State Fair and the Foundation, Brandon is also involved in the Kansas Livestock Association, 4-H, Kansas Farm Bureau, and both the Kansas and American Angus Associations.

When asked if he had a message to share, Brandon said, “he wanted people to know what the Foundation has done for him and his family through the support it provides to the Kansas State Fair and the Ag Industry and the vital connections formed as a result.

“I like making as many connections as I can,” he said. “Boots and Bling brings people together to support the Fair.”
